As part of the European Week for Waste Reduction at the Gozo College Xewkija Primary School, Minister for Gozo Dr. Justyne Caruana inaugurated the reverse osmosis system, a project which has been funded by the Ministry for Gozo.
During the last scholastic year, the school’s Eco Committee members, together with the SMT embarked on a project to mitigate the use of single-used plastic.
This was supported by the Eco-Gozo Directorate within the Ministry that also provided stainless steel bottles to the school.
The school said that the Xewkija Local Council also believed in this project and assisted in the printing of cloth shopping bags. These were given to both staff and students.
Minister. Justyne Caruana praised the Xewkija school’s relentless efforts in its determination to strengthen the well-practised ecological awareness among students and staff.
All stakeholders within the local community are being involved in the project.
Other schools will follow in the Xewkija School’s footsteps by benefitting from similar Reverse Osmosis projects within their own schools, another project issued by the Eco-Gozo Directorate.
In the near future, the school said that it also plans to embark on other green pilot projects.
