The UNESCO Heritage site in Dwejra, Gozo has been attacked by unknown vandals this week, by daubing bright red paint around the area.

The Gozo Tourism Association said that it strongly condemns this act of vandalism that in turn, it said, will be damaging Gozo’s touristic offer.

The red paint has been strewn by “irresponsible indiviual/s” across buildings, signposts and wooden structures in one of the most beautiful natural spots Gozo is endowed with, the GTA said.

It added that, “this is a clear act of vandalism, tarnishing the natural beauty of one of the Islands’ picturesque rural areas.”

The Association pointed out that Dwejra is one of the main tourist resorts on Gozo, visited by thousands of visitors each year, who enjoy visiting the pristine surroundings of this unique touristic spot.

The GTA stated that “it is a great shame that such vandalism exists and is still practised by very irresponsible persons against society and the environment.”

The Gozo Tourism Association concluded by encouraging the enforcement authorities to “step up their work towards the protection of such sites and investigate all vandalism,” and also urged anyone with any related information to contact the police, who are conducting their investigations to bring those responsible to justice.
