The Ministry for Gozo has announced a new Cat Café project whereby more cats will be protected in specific locations.
Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, made the announcement during a news conference held at Animal Welfare Gozo.
Dr Caruana said that the idea for this Cat Café follows on from the success of previous schemes and initiatives by the Ministry for Gozo, which included a cat neutering service.
She explained that the Ministry together with local councils, will now identify appropriate locations for the new Cat Cafés.
The Minister stressed the importance that we give to animals especially by providing the safe environment they deserve. In this case they will be given an appropriate place which will be protected from the elements and even address any problems they may have, she said.
Heidi Grech from Animal Welfare Gozo, said that thanks to the help of the Ministry, Animal Welfare is now being given the due importance. She said that arrangements will be made with feeders in several locations to coordinate the Cat Cafés.
She added that such initiatives will continue to increase awareness for animals, especially domestic ones.
Ms Grech concluded by appealing to the public not to buy an animal as a gift during this festive season, because animals should be in a home where it is wanted and where it will be in the best possible environment.

Whilst this initiative is possibly very noble, I feel that the funds would have been better utilised in financing the 22 children under threat of deportation, simply because their parents do not get enough remuneration from legal work, to fund their lives in Malta.
