An urgent appeal for blood of every type has been issued by the National Blood Transfusion Service, there is a donation session in Gozo this afternoon

The Service has said that there is a very low supply of blood reserves, this is because the number of blood donations being made are not meeting the demand.

In a statement, the Service went on to say that particularly during Christmas week the shortage could mean having to postpone some blood transfusions and operations

Today, Saturday, the 21st of December, there is the chance to give blood at the Xewkija Blood donation Centre.

Donations can be made between 1.00pm and 5.00 (last registration is 5.00pm)

The Donation Centre is located in Triq tall- Hamrija, between the Primary School and the Bocci Club.

The next chance to donate blood in Gozo will be on Sunday, the 5th of January, between 8am and 1pm.

The Service reminds everyone that it is important to always take your Identity Card, or Driving License or Maltese Passport and to drink plenty of water beforehand.
