During a concelebrated mass at the parish of Saints Peter and Paul, Nadur, Mgr. Mario Grech, bishop of Gozo, conferred the ministry of Lector to five Seminarians: Krystof Buttigieg (Qala), Samuel Grech (Ghajnsielem), John Mejlak (Cathedral parish), and Trevor Sultana and Franklin Vella (Xewkija).

The function of lector is that of reading the word of God in the liturgical assembly. In his homily, the Bishop invited the candidates to meditate assiduously on Sacred Scripture so that they may more fittingly and perfectly fulfill this function. Aware of the office they are undertaking, the lectors are to make every effort and employ suitable means to acquire that increasingly warm and living love and knowledge of Scripture that will make them more perfect disciples of the Lord.

This is the first ministry conferred on seminarians in preparation for their ordination to the priesthood.
