“Each time I get an invitation in my electronic mail to ‘not eat meat for a week’, I always did it with ease.
I am against cruelty to animals. I used to volunteer to North Vietnam to teach English, but because I lived next to a dog restaurant and heard their cries as they were slaughtered in during the night for the next day’s menu,I did not return to this school, even though I know it was not the fault of the children.
So in Malta we have a group – maltameatfreeweek.com who is doing their best to do something about this and I applaud them. In fact I did the challenge last year between the 6th and 13th of October.
I am single and this Friday the 14th I booked a table for 4 because a couple is visiting me from Germany. I have no partner and I might be single with this couple as I have been for many Valentine’s dinners! But that is OK, I am used to it although I prefer to have a Valentine at least for dinner.
The reason why I am writing this letter on Gozo.news is twofold. I would like to promote this good gesture of inviting people be aware of what is going on so that 200grms of meat gets to their plate.
Secondly, I want to tell them that I did not like to-day’s email. They sent us this message: Tell your loved one “You’re the only MEAT I’d EAT!” It will be a miracle if I have a valentine! But if I do have a lady to join me, then am I expected to ask her not to eat meat?
I did not like this idea because when you invite anyone, even your wife or husband to a restaurant, it is not prudent to force them what to eat or not to eat. Case closed.
Happy Valentine and I will be eating King Prawns in a family restaurant in Xlendi.”

King Prawns are animals too.
