The repaired section of the cable of the Malta-Italy interconnector will be buried in a dedicated trench on the seabed during the coming hours, in a process which will take about 2 days, Enemalta has said.

It is planned that the interconnector will be re-energised and put back in service this coming Friday, the 1st of May.

The company said that since the repair was completed the interconnector cable was being overseen continuously by guard vessels.

Tomorrow morning, the Polar King, the specialised vessel entrusted with this task, will arrive on the site of repair with the necessary equipment to bury the repaired section of the submarine cable.

Enemalta advised that the works are expected to last 2 days, therefore during this period, the interconnector will be switched off as a precaution.
