A new Cabinet has been announced on Saturday evening by Prime Minister Robert Abela.

This follows two co-options in Parliament on the 19th of October, the statement said, and also follows the announcement that the Finance Minister Edward Scicluna has been recommended to be appointed Governor of the Malta Central Bank.

Justyne Caruana makes a return to the Cabinet, this time as the Minister for Education. She had resigned from her position as Minister for Gozo in January.

Clint Camilleri remains as Minister for Gozo and Anton Refalo as Minister for Agriculture.

The Government said the changes continue to characterise the Cabinet as talented and united, with a strong youth element and the inclusion of all women in the Government’s Parliamentary Group.

“In productive discussions held with Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries, Dr Abela emphasised the need for the Government to continue to support those most in need, to strengthen employment and to create a climate for investment to prepare Malta for the future,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Glenn Micallef has been appointed as the Head of the secretariat at the OPM in place of Clyde Caruana who has now been appointed as the new Minister for Finance.

Micallef is a graduate in economics and European politics. In recent years Micallef occupied the position of Director General of the EU Coordination Department and since January as a Consultant to the PM for European Affairs, where he was also part of the team that enabled Malta to obtain a record €2.25 billion in EU Funds over the next seven years.
