133 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the past 24-hours, and with 107 recoveries, making the number of active cases at 2,082. The number of swabs taken were still low with 2,664 taken over this period.

Health Authorities announced yesterday that rapid testing will start in Gozo from today, no details were provided as to where this will be taking place.

Authorities said that today’s cases are “still being investigated.” From yesterday’s 80 cases; 16 were family members of previously known cases, 5 were contacts of positive work colleagues, 3 were from direct contact with other positive cases and 1 case was from social gatherings with other positive cases. Details were not given for the other outstanding 55 sporadic cases.

This takes the total number of cases up to 9,137. There have been 6,938 recoveries and now 117 deaths, the Ministry said. 409,981 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic in Malta.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, still has no updated figures that have been provided for Malta, making the fourth day as such, and is showing that the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 for Malta, is 308.2 with the number of cases recorded still at 8,560, and the number of deaths showing as 104. Malta is currently in 23rd position in the EU/EEA and UK. Luxembourg is at the top with 1279.0, followed by Austria with 1056.8.

Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.

All swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made on the above number.
