On the occasion of the 100th Anniversary from the birth of Gozitan poet – Gorg Pisani, MaltaPost p.l.c. has announced that a special hand postmark – Gorg Pisani – 100 Sena minn twelidu – 1909 – 2009 – Victoria, Gozo – Malta – 06.05.2009, will be used on Wednesday, the 6th of May 2009 at MaltaPost Victoria (Gozo) Branch.
A commemorative monument was erected in the poet’s memory eight years ago, Gorg Pisani’s poems and writings are a living legacy which continues to teach and please all those who read them.
In 1992, Gorg Pisani was honoured with the Medal for Service to the Republic in recognition of his work and contribution in favour of Malta and Gozo.
Gorg Pisani’s was an official at the Department of Information, and he played a determining part in the wheat gathering campaign during World War II, that helped Malta to keep its ground against the enemy. For several years, Pisani taught Maltese at the Gozo Lyceum.
