This year’s – Gozo Cultural Events Fund – for cultural activities in Gozo, has been tripled from last year to €750,000.

Launched by Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, the fund offers support to artists, local groups, councils, NGOs, and entities in Gozo for cultural initiatives.

Minister Camilleri said how these funds will continue to strengthen the cultural field in Gozo.

The Gozo Cultural Events Fund Scheme is a Ministry for Gozo measure for community-led creative and artistic activities in Gozo. It provides the opportunity for the development of artistic projects led by the community for the community, while celebrating cultural diversity.

The fund is looking to co-finance projects which encourage active cultural participation, promote local talent and boost the community’s creative expression or appreciation of its identity.

The Gozo Minister explained that, “as a Ministry and Government, even against a background of a pandemic, we have not stopped helping local artists and groups who have organised initiatives or events in Gozo. In addition, in the event of a pandemic, organising such events had proved to be much more costly.”

He also stated that financially the Ministry for Gozo will not stop encouraging active cultural participation, promoting local talent.

Director of the Cultural Heritage Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo, John Xuereb, explained that applicants eligible for this scheme may be voluntary organisations, independent individual, or group, entities and local councils – providing that the cultural events are going to be held during this year.

Minister Clint Camilleri, while thanking the Directorate of Cultural Heritage in Gozo, reiterated that these funds will help to embellish the cultural calendar for this year in accordance with the Directives issued by the Health Authorities.

He concluded by saying that in this way we will continue to prepare so that “once we return to normality we will once again attract hundreds of Maltese and even tourists to our island every month of the year.”
