The Nationalist Party has said that it is unacceptable that Gozitans have had to go to Malta to be vaccinated, with some Gozitans still receiving letters for appointments to have the Covid-19 vaccine in Malta.
In a statement, Chris Said the Opposition spokesperson for Gozo, said that “this is unacceptable and shows the incompetence of the Government.”
He pointed out that “last week, several vulnerable Gozitans, including elderly over 80-years of age were asked to go and get the vaccine in Malta.”
Said went on to say that it was after the Opposition spoke out about it that the Health Authorities have now promised that this will change and that any vulnerable patients who had been asked to travel to Malta for a vaccination, will now receive an appointment in Gozo.
“Now, in the past few days teachers, LSEs, police, soldiers and several other Gozitan frontliners have received a letter to go to Malta to get the vaccine. Again this is not acceptable,” Dr Said added.
“The Opposition maintains that every Gozitan should have the opportunity to receive the vaccine in Gozo itself,” he said.
The PN said, an appeal is therefore being made for no further appointment letters should be issued for Gozitans to travel to Malta for the vaccine and those who already have the letter will be given an appointment in Gozo.
“We also call for an increase in the rate at which the vaccine is being administered in Gozo,” Dr Said stated. “It seems that the number of vaccines being administered in Gozo are very low, with many more achievable.”
He concluded by saying that the number of places being used for the vaccine to be given should also be increased, as so far there is only the Victoria Clinic and the Kercem Clinic.

What a disgrace that all people in Gozo are not vaccinated yet. Incompetence at its best .
I cannot understand why they are not using GP’s and pharmacies to do this work as they are doing in the UK. It has worked phenomenally well
Why not use the Heliport drive in system as used for testing? Quick, great social distancing, already set up.
Why should Elderly Gozitans have to Travel to Malta to be vaccinated that is a total disgrace we should be vaccinated either by are own GP or at the health Centre is that to Difficult for the Health Authority to organize Please leave your comments.
