In an activity for activists Alternattiva Demokratika candidates spoke about important issues people are facing. Arnold Cassola, AD Chairperson said that AD is on its way to win a seat in the European Parliament.

Yvonne Ebejer Arqueros, one of AD’s candidates for MEP spoke of the need of childcare facilities. She said that schools are closed after 2.30pm and that these with some investment can be used to provide childcare facilities. “We must make an effort to reach the Lisbon criteria,” she said.

Michael Briguglio, Sliema Local Councillor and candidate for the Sliema local council spoke of the lack of cooperation of authorities such as MEPA and ADT with local councils. He said that AD has raised a parliamentary question in the European Parliament about air quality in Sliema.

Arnold Cassola, AD Chairperson and MEP candidate said, “This week statistics about the state of the family in Malta were published. One out of four children are born out of wedlock. This is a social reality we must face.”

“The Today Public Policy Institute report also mentions that there are around 30,000 to 35,000 persons whose marriage has failed. We want to strengthen the family by investing in counselling services, but we must face social reality. AD will push for a resolution in the EP for divorce to be recognised in Malta so that those who choose can build a new family should they wish to.We will also work for the recognition on pension and inheritance rights for various forms of cohabiting couples.”

Finally Arnold Cassola said,”The Sunday Times today quoted unpublished surveys giving 56-57% to PL and 40% to PN. This anonymous ‘survey’ is very difficult to believe. So according to The Sunday Times, all other parties will get just over 3.5% together?”

“Well, we quote real and scientific polls. AD has a very good fighting chance, even more now that Malta will most probably have six seats in the European Parliament. The Sunday Times is not reporting scientific polls and failed to report that AD’s share of the vote in these polls is increasing.”

“The Malta Today scientific survey shows an increase from 3.8% to 5.4% between April and May. AD’s share has also increased from 4.4% to 6.6% in two months in the EU sponsored www.predict09.eu. The reality is that scientific polls show that AD is on its way to win a seat in the European Paliament. We can do it. Yes we can. Malta needs a third voice in the European Parliament. Pluralism will show that Malta is a serious and modern country.”
