Education Minister Justyne Caruana has provided details of a €4 million project for the refurbishment of Nadur Primary School.

“This is an important project not only for Nadur and Gozo, but also at a national level, to spread a strong message in favour of quality education,” stressed Minister Caruana.

The project is expected to start in the coming months, as the tender processes proceed, and following the relocation of students to other parts of Nadur itself while the work is being carried out.

The Minister explained that, “we are talking about extensive work and therefore due to the safety of students and educators, we will provide other places for learning until the work is completed and they can start to enjoy their new school environment,” said Minister Caruana.

The Nadur Primary School project involves an extensive upgrade of the existing primary school with the intention that the school will have modern, accessible and comfortable educational spaces for the children and educators, the Minister added.

Nadur Primary School, which forms part of the Gozo College, is housed in a two-storey building and was built at the beginning of the 20th Century on an area of 5,000 square metres and is located in an Urban Conservation Area.

In addition to the extensive work to be carried out both the interior and exterior of the school, the project will include the redesign of open and recreational spaces, as well as the creation of new spaces for teaching extracurricular subjects, including a dance studio, music room, literacy room, theatre studio, and art classes. The project will also address the accessibility of the building, and it will become energy efficient.

Nadur Primary School has a population of about 200 children, and about 30 educators.

Also present for the launch of the project were Nadur Mayor Edward Said, College Principal Denise Mifsud, and Head of School Anita Sciberras.
