2 people die with Covid-19, 56 new cases, with 38 in hospital, 5 in ITU

56 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight from the 2,615 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 2.14%.
Authorities said that during the last 24 hours, a 63-year old man and a 71-year old woman have both passed away at Mater Dei Hospital while Covid-19 positive.
A total of 38 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, up from 32 yesterday. 5 of the 38 patients are in the ITU.
There have been 121 recoveries, taking the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo down to 878. The average age of yesterday’s 59 cases was 33.
The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 34,902 and there have been 33,200 recoveries and 428 deaths.
1,119,811 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.
The number of vaccines administered is now at 774,907 up until yesterday. 396,160 people are now fully vaccinated.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 5th of August it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 34,439 and the number of deaths showing is 423. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is down to 354.28 from 490.12 in the previous week. Malta is now the 8th highest in the EU.
The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.
The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
