Met Office issues “Be Prepared” weather warning, ferries affected

The Met Office has has issued a `Be Prepared’ warning for today – saying “moderate to heavy showers, locally with thunder expected to affect the Maltese Islands.”

It also warned that the East Northeast wind will be strong over the Maltese Islands and very strong over the exposed areas. Possible up to Force 7. The warning is valid until 9pm this evening “and will be renewed.”

Gozo Channel has advised that “due to the bad weather forecast, Gozo Channel ferry operations may be affected or even cancelled for today. At the time of writing the ferry was still operating, and in Cirkewwa it was leaving from the South Quay due to the sea currents.

Both fast ferry companies stated that their services were suspended for today until further notice, due to the unfavourable sea conditions.
