The latest data from the National Statistics Office show that in September, the total inbound visitors to the Maltese Islands were estimated at 159,304, while total nights spent amounted to 1,255,908.

149,760 inbound tourists visited Malta on holiday, while 6,307 were here on business. The NSO noted that French and Italian residents comprised 19.6% of total inbound tourists.

The largest share of guest nights (80.3%) was spent in rented accommodation establishments. The average length of stay of total inbound tourists stood at 7.9 nights.

The NSO said that total tourist expenditure surpassed €150.4 million. The average expenditure per night was estimated at €119.8.

Inbound tourists for the first nine months of 2021 amounted to 586,234, an increase of 0.4% over the same period in 2020. Total nights spent by inbound tourists increased by 22.4%, and reached nearly 5.4 million nights.

Total tourism expenditure was estimated at €566.7 million, an increase of 44.3% when compared to the same period in 2020. The NSO said that total expenditure per capita stood at €967, increasing from €673 in the same period in 2020, mainly as a result of longer length of stays.
