Prime Minister Robert Abela has stated that during next week a plan is to be announced for the start of the removal of restrictions against Covid, beginning in the first week of February.

Speaking to supporters during a political event in Nadur on Sunday morning, he said because of of the high rate of success of the vaccinations including booster doses, as well as the success of the measures which had been imposed, it was now time for the country to “move forward.”

The Prime Minister also spoke about whether it is the time for Covid-19 to start being treated like an endemic similar to a cold or the seasonal flu, rather than a pandemic. “I look forward to this debate starting in Malta;” he said.

Dr Abela stressed that,“above all, we will not allow anything to hinder or threaten the progress that our country has made in recent years.”
