Update with KSU statement below – Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri, who is also responsible for the regulation on hunting, has said on social media that after the Court granted a provisional injunction in favour of BirdLife Malta not to open the spring hunting season on Sunday for turtle dove, the Government filed an application through the State Attorney for the hearing to be held urgently.

The Court had given a date for the hearing of the 19th of April, after what would have been the start of the season.

The Gozo Minister said that the Court has upheld the Government’s request and the case for the injunction will now take place tomorrow, the 14th of April.

Hunters’ Federation FKNK welcomed the news, also writing on social media that it will be present in Court and “keep members notified and informed and of ongoing developments.”

The FKNK added that it “continues to work closely with the legal team, while continuing to assist the Government at all stages.”

This morning the FKNK also brought an action in Court against the Warrant of Prohibitory Injunction request filed by BirdLife Malta yesterday.

Update KSU statement:

Kaccaturi San Ubertu in a statement, asserted that “the right to apply derogation for the hunting of turtle dove in spring is enshrined in the EU Birds Directive which shares Birdlife International’s endorsement.”

Kaccaturi San Ubertu, concluded by saying that it “offers its support and help to the government, the Minister responsible and will persist with its studies on turtle dove to further strengthen the government’s position.”
