Moviment Graffitti has said that “as expected – PA/01703/22 – another of Joseph Portelli’s monstrosities for 27 apartments in Sannat, has been given the green light by the Planning Authority.”

The Planning Board, in the hearing on Wednesday morning, voted 2-0 in favour of the application. The area in question is Sannat Heights and undeveloped land, Triq il-Pinnur c/w Triq ta’ Bebunaq, Triq il-Paranji.

The organisation said that this project by Gozitan Joseph Portelli and his partner Mark Agius, adds 27 apartments to a project of 125 apartments, a stone’s throw away from the Ta’ Cenc cliffs.

It argued that “the construction magnate Joseph Portelli has learned to use this piecemeal approach to evade scrutiny – and the Planning Authority refuses to take this into account.”

The description of works is for the: Proposed construction of basement level -2 as garages for private cars, interconnecting with adjacent existing basement garages. Proposed basement -1 as garages for private cars. Proposed 5 maisonettes at ground floor level and 15 apartments at level 1,2 and 3. Proposed receded floor level as four apartments. Proposed extension of existing three apartments at level 3 in Sannat height building to full floor and three additional apartments at the receded floor level. Proposed splash pools at receded floor level.

Moviment Graffitti stated that “this is the fifth application in this project. Portelli and his partners are destroying the peace of Sannat and the cliffs of Gozo.”

This project was approved just one day after another one of Portelli’s mega-developments was endorsed by the PA in Balzan, the organisation said.

Moviment Graffitti concluded by saying that thanks to the public’s response, “we have already collected enough funds to open an appeal against the last application that was approved in an irregular manner. Our authorities refuse to work for us. Our fight continues.”
