Further details have emerged from the meeting held recently between Gozitan stakeholders, including environmental entities, and the President Dr George Vella which covered the cultural, architectural and environmental situation in Gozo.
This “unprecedented alliance” is called – Ghal Ghawdex – with the motto of “working together towards making Gozo a better place to live.”
The organisation said that during the meeting at San Anton Palace, particular emphasis was placed on the natural and built environment.
The stakeholders elaborated on the need to achieve a sustainable balance between economic prosperity and the protection and preservation of the island’s unique environment, culture and heritage.
Discussion also focused on what makes the island truly unique and special, offering a different quality of life to the Gozitan population, and the thousands of Maltese and foreign residents who choose to make Gozo their permanent home, and which attract hundreds of thousands of tourists to its shores annually.
The presidents of the Gozitan stakeholders thanked the President for his comments and strong positive views on the future of Gozo and committed to work together to achieve “a stronger, brighter future for the island of Gozo – beloved by past, present and future generations of Gozitans and Maltese, and by visitors of all nationalities.”
