Work on the Gozo Aquatic and Sports Centre in Victoria is “progressing as planned and the first phase of the project, which includes the roofing of the facilities, is about to be completed,” the Ministry for Gozo said.

Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, on a visit to the centre said that, “the works have now entered another phase where we are approaching the completion of this biggest sports project for Gozo.”

He explained that “with the tower crane has now removed, the panelling work continues so that the complex can begin to be closed. The piping and electrical work is well underway where the pumping area that will operate the swimming pool is practically complete.”

Camilleri added that in the coming weeks the facade will start to be built with a design that mixes limestone with an extensive expanse of glass. More equipment that will be used in the swimming pool has now arrived in Malta and should be delivered to Gozo in the coming days.

Architect of the project Godwin Sultana said that the work is currently moving towards the third and last phase and he described the progress made in this project as “excellent.”

The Gozo Minister described the project as a “crucial one for the Gozitan island” and concluded by saying that “as promised this will be an excellent facility as befits the Gozitan sportspeople and Gozo.”

The Gozo Aquatic and Sports Centrer is spread over an area of approximately 5,000 square metres and will be equipped with top-level sports facilities and an Olympic-sized swimming pool among others.
