The ‘Ghajnsielem Learning Garden’ has been officially opened by Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri, together with Parliamentary Secretary for Local Councils Alison Zerafa Civelli and Mayor Kevin Cauchi.
The project was carried out by the Ghajnsielem Local Council with an investment of €350,000.
Formerly known as Gudja Playingfield, the project was launched in 2021, and now completed it has been transformed into an educational garden with emphasis on inclusion, education and greenery.
This open space offers playing equipment which focus on physical activity, musical percussion for a multi-sensory experience, educational signs about the trees, braille signs for the visually impaired, open mini-library, bocci pitch, 27 newly-planted trees, artistic mosaic works showing the local butterflies, a canopy to offer shelter from elements for school children waiting for the school bus and an amphitheatre so school children can use this space as an open class.
Mayor Kevin Cauchi, on behalf of the Local Council, expressed his thanks to all involved to make this project happen “including the architect, contractors and our financial backers in particular the Gozo Action Group Foundation (GAGF) and the Department for Local Government.”
