A preview of the `Piranesi – Klinger On the Threshold of the Avantgarde‘ exhibition is being offered next Saturday at Il-Hagar Museum in Victoria

The preview will be at 11am on Saturday, the 11th of November, to be led by renowned curator and art expert Patrizia Foglia.

Others taking part will be Arialdo and Marta Ceribelli of Bergamo’s Galleria Ceribelli and Valerio Ballotta (the exhibition curator).

The museum said that registration, by sending an email to events@heartofgozo.org.mt, is essential.

This important temporary exhibition opens next Saturday and will remain open for viewing until Sunday, the 7th of January, featuring graphic artists Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720 -1778) and Max Klinger (1857 – 1920).

Italian Piranesi was – and remains – especially noted for his etchings, in particular Vedute di Roma and Le Carceri. A selection from both these series, including a fabulous map of Rome, are included in the exhibition. German Klinger is best known for serial prints.

One of these series, consisting of ten etchings, Paraphrase über den Fund eines Handschuhes – or, simply, ” A Glove” which inspired Italian cantautore Francesco De Gregori – will be exhibited.

The viewing of these original etchings is obviously an extremely rare opportunity – in fact, unique, the museum said.

The accompanying catalogue is published as Il-Hagar Gems 27.

The exhibition is being officially opened by Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri on Saturday, the 11th of November at 7.30pm.

Il-Hagar is located in St George’s Square, Victoria and is open 9am to 5pm seven days a week, without any entrance fee.

The museum acknowledged support from “numerous institutions, specifically GBK Malta Ltd as well as the Gozo Action Group Foundation through the LEADER Programme.”
