“Hal Far Local Plan review should include a Social Impact Assessment,” say the Malta Sociological Association.

The MSA noted that a partial review to be carried out by the Planning Authority of the 2006 South Malta Local Plan, as amended in 2017, specifically for Hal Far, had been requested by the Government.

In this regard, the sociologists said that they are calling for the employment and mainstreaming of social impact assessments in this process. “SIAs should not be one-off exercises.”

The MSA stated that “SIAs should be carried out through ongoing processes, conforming to professional guidelines, such as those of the International Association for Impact Assessment.”
