The Greater flamingo which had been resting on Gozo for two days, was seen leaving Ras il-Hobz on Wednesday at around 3.30pm, the Malta Rangers said.

The Rangers said that they had scanned every inch of the Gozitan coastline on Thursday with no sighting of the bird.

Then on Friday, the Rangers received confirmation from a trekker that the flamingo indeed left the western tip of Gozo and flew outwards during Wednesday late afternoon.

”Most likely it is aiming for Sicily or Sardegna. May it have a safe flight there,” the Rangers said.

The MRU expressed its thanks to the general public for the support during the long shifts at Ras il-Hobz, as well as all those who signed up to become members of MRU. ”With your membership we can now increase our Unit.”

The MRU said that it will now continue their duties in both Malta and Gozo. They are reachable 24/7 via WhatsApp 79378118, in case of urgent matters. For normal reports, please email via info@rangers.mt
