Gozo registers 8.4% increase in building permits for new dwellings

Gozo registered an increase of 8.4% in the number of approved building permits for new dwellings in the second quarter of this year, the National Statistics Office said today.
388 dwellings were registered in the second quarter, an increase on the same period in 2023 when the number was 358. However it was down slightly on the first quarter of this year when 401 were registered.
Sannat had the highest number of approved new dwellings on Gozo, with 111.
Other Gozo localities were Xaghra 65, Zebbug 54, Qala 48, Nadur 28, Victoria 25, Munxar (which includes Xlendi) 17, Ghajnsielem 12, Gharb 9, Xewkija 8, Kercem 6, San Lawrenz 5, there were none for Fontana and Ghasri.
On a national basis, during the second quarter of 2024, 453 building permits for a total of 2,118 new dwellings were approved.
When compared to the same quarter in 2023, the number of approved new dwellings decreased by 13.7%.
Apartments made up 70.4% of the total number of approved new dwellings.
The highest number of approved new dwellings (130) was registered in San Pawl il-Bahar.
