Police Patrol and Community Support Officers increasing police presence in the communityA new role has been introduced by the Government with the aim of increasing the presence of the Police in the community with – Police Patrol and Community Support Officers.

This new role will ensure that the Police Force is “present among the people, talks to them, supervises the streets and the presence serves also a deterrent,” the Government said.

The Minister for the Interior and Security Byron Camilleri, explained that the Police Patrol and Community Support Officer has fewer powers than a sworn police officer, similar to the role which is already in the UK.

However, he said, this is a “powerful role” because he will be assisting the district police and therefore the presence on the streets will be increasing.

The Minister appealed to those “who want to contribute to a safer Malta, and be of service to the country, to come forward to choose this career.” The call for these officers opened on Friday and will be open until Friday, the 22nd of November and can be accessed from this link: https://bit.ly/3A48OAa.
