Zebbug Local Council in Gozo is one of ten Local Councils that will be benefiting from funds of approximately €270,000, through the maintenance and support scheme of major infrastructure projects carried out by the central government.

Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli explained that through these funds, the beautification and maintenance of open and recreational areas in the respective localities will continue.

The selected projects range from the maintenance and support of gardens, open areas for physical activity, tree planting, installation of street lights, and the maintenance of public buildings among other projects.

“Through this scheme we are financially assisting the Local Council so that capital projects in their respective localities continue to be supported in the future. We believe that it is the Local Councils who know best the needs in their localities and therefore through this scheme it is the Local Councils themselves who are applying for funds with a plan to maintain these projects,” said the Parliamentary Secretary.

The ten Local Councils that benefited from this scheme are, Zebbug Gozo, and in Malta: Bormla, Qormi, Birzebbuga, Gudja, Hamrun, Santa Lucija, Santa Venera, Siggiewi and Mqabba.
