Gozitan students' cheques expected to be posted this weekThe Ministry for Gozo and for Education said in a statement this afternoon that Gozitan students, who have to travel to Malta will receive their grant payments within days. The Ministry said that they had been passed for payment last Thursday, the 2nd of May, however due to some technicalities within the Treasury, the processing of payments could not be carried out.

“The processing is expected to continue tomorrow, with cheques printed on Thursday, 9th of May and posted on Friday, 10th of May or at the latest Monday, 13th of May.”

The Minsitry said that reports in some media that “subsidies or allowances for Gozitan students would be reduced is incorrect. They would remain the same.”

The Gozo University Group said in a statement this morning that it had received a number of complaints regarding the indefinite delay in distribution of the maintenance grant entitled to Gozitan students who travel to Malta for their education.

The expected €400 cheque is the second out of three grants received by Gozitans, amounting to €1,200 annually. It is issued every three months during the scholastic year and the last payment should have arrived some weeks ago following the first supplement in January. GUG said that none of the students received the grant.
