The Government has said that as from this comng Monday, the 4th of November, the seasonal influenza vaccine will be offered free of charge to all the general public including children over the age of 6 months.

Seasonal influenza can affect people of all age groups from infancy to old age.

The vaccine against seasonal influenza helps to prevent this severe illness which can bring about medical complications leading to increased hospital admissions. Influenza is usually more common during the colder months but this is the ideal time to get vaccinated in order to help the body build up immunity against the influenza virus.

The public may call at the immunisation clinics within the Health Centres during their normal opening hours and also in Health Centre treatment rooms after this.

It is important that the identity cards are presented, or the immunisation record book in the case of children.
