Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party said that it welcomes talks starting today between the Government and Opposition on the citizenship scheme.
Prof. Arnold Cassola, Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, said, “We welcome the start of talks today and look forward to a reasonable compromise on the issue since, after the bad international publicity linked to the migrant pushback policy and this citizenship selling scheme, our country cannot afford any more faux pas which smear Malta’s reputation.
“We look forward to a serious proposal which does away with the anonymity clause and with the concept of selling or buying citizenship. Maltese (and EU) citizenship can never be up for sale.”
Walter I live in Canada and the Canadian Government let many investors into Canada, long as they bringing their money to Invest in Canada ,and this is not Called , selling the CITIZENSHIP . It’s called Investment in the country . In Canada A person need to bring $3, 000, 000 for investment ,and the Canadian Government let him, or her in the country for good . plus they give him the Canadian Passport . .This is called INVESTMENT . Which is very good to the Country’s Economy. I agree Malta need investors to create work for her people ..Long as these people come to Malta with their names clean from any Crime ,I do not see any thing wrong with it .Because most of the other countries are doing it too . But in Malta the law is totally different from that you mentioned.
Walter in Malta the proposal would have allowed foreigners to BUY a Maltese passport WITHOUT ANY RESIDENCY OR INVESTMENT REQUIREMENTS.
The government earlier this week rolled back one of the more controversial elements of the law, saying it would publish the names of people buying Maltese passports.

Canada is Canada ,not EU / Malta remeber that !
Walter Peter. here in Canada and USA there are many investors that they do not residents in Canada ,but they are Canadians business men just the same .Because their money is invested in this country .and they do not have to live in Canada ,they can be living in Russia, it does not matter, long as they paying Canadian Taxes . that’s what the government is concerned about .. Bringing investors in the country is good for the country and for the Economy . England been doing this for ages bringing Indians and Pakistanis that have lots of money ,and look what they built factories and have many Trades men . . Malta needs many people with money and good ideas to help the economy . Not very many Maltese or Gozitans that have lots of money to build Factories or to open big Business . As I said before , long as the people that comes are Clean from CRIMES, and are good people , you cannot ask for a better Idea as far I am concern .Malta will improve .. PS Money are good to make them work ,not to keep them in the bank to get RUSTY

Walter while in Canada and in the US foreigners can take Canadian and US citizenship poor or rich without the need of buying the citizenship. Here in Malta things are very different , there is a great discrimination because while poor foreigners are not allowed to take a Maltese citizenship rich foreigners can by a Maltese citizenship by buying it with a prize of 600.000 euros of which 200.000 euro are being taken by a private foreign company Henley & Partners who are going to bring those foreigners in Malta. The processing of applicants to buy EU PASSPORTS( because today we Maltese are EU citizens) for cash will be in the hands of operators of Henley & Partners.

You mentioned that England have the same law (FALSE). England do not have this law and Indians and Pakistanis have English citizenship not because they bought the English citizenship but because those citizens went to England long time ago when they where a British Colony.
Mr Sultana you’re from Canada so you have heard cbc News of 22nd November that a Criminal used 3 different names to get Canadian citizenship, and you know that Canada’s scrutiny of applicants (non-paying) is one of the world’s most stringent and still many criminals infiltrate in Canada. So are you confident that Malta is capable to stop those criminals to enter in our islands ??? Look at the link below.
