To mark the occasion of World Day of the Sick, which is celebrated on the 11th of February, the Bishop of Gozo Mgr. Mario Grech, last Sunday, led a Mass for the elderly, at the Gozo General Hospital.
On this occasion, the Bishop presented a behalf of the Diocese of Gozo, the sum of € 5,200 to Dr. Nadine Delicata, CEO of General Hospital of Gozo, for the purchase of equipment for the hospital, this included among others, twelve wheelchairs, a Paediatric wheelchair, chair weighing Scales, and three ripple mattresses.
The donation of money was collected during the summer months by fifteen parishes in the community as well as the religious order of the Conventual Franciscans of Gozo. The Gozitan parishes wanted to present a gesture of charity as part of the celebrations of their feasts, the Diocese said.
Dr. Delicata expressed her satisfaction for this generous donation, and said that most wheelchairs are already distributed in homes for the service of people in need.
Bishops Grech, in his message for the occasion said, that through this initiative “we would like to help the Christian community to operate the logic of gratuitousness – to give without expecting anything in return.”
This the Diocese said, ties in with what Bishop Grech said in his Pastoral for Lent this year, when in it he invited the people to reduce in others the suffering causing weeping.
