Some of the young winning members of the Gozo Cycling Club have paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana.
During their visit at the Gozo Ministry Dr Caruana paid tribute to their success, saying that having participated at both national and international level, not only are the young cyclists bringing Gozo’s name to the fore, they are also making a name for Gozo.
Dr Caruana also called on more children and young people to practice sport, especially today, when the choice available is vast and far removed from what is thought of as traditional sports disciplines.
The cyclists present at the Ministry were Brandon Sultana who finished up as national champion in the new Under 23 category in the time trial discipline with a total of 550 out of a maximum of 600. Brandon will also this year be part of the adult Maltese national team.
Joseph Mifsud became national road race champion in the same category with a total of 515 points, while Darren Sultana is the national road race champion in the under 16 category with a total of 575 points. Each tournament consisted of three races on different dates.
10 year old Jacob Zerafa who recently took part in the Alpe Adria BMX Championship, which was held in Muhlen, Austria, where he came sixth out of 21 participants.
