Restoration of Bell-Cot at the Capuchin’s Sanctuary

Some weeks ago, the Bell-Cot of the Capuchin Friars’ Sanctuary in Victoria was dismantled for restoration. The stone fabric of the whole structure had deteriorated drastically over the years because of the effects of continual exposure to the weather.

There was a high risk that the whole structure could collapse any minute and thus expose all those that frequented this holy place to danger, thus prompting the need for the urgent restoration works.

Seen in the picture is Mark Vella working on the last stone decorations to replace the damaged, deteriorated or fractured stone slabs. Sound stone blocks are to be reinstated in their original place during the re-erection phase.

Mr Vella happens also to be the restorer who carried out the dismantling of the Bell-Cot and is also responsible for rebuilding it.

An assessment of the cost of this project reveals that it is substantially high and the Capuchin community will surely appreciate any donation towards the realization of this restoration project.
