Detailing the ongoing works at Il-Menqa, as part of the Marsalforn masterplan, Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri explained that the concrete has been laid in continuation with the first base layer, and the first sleeves with services for properties were also done.

The Gozo Minister went on to say that the old material was removed, a new sewage system was installed between the restaurants, and a new chamber valve, with a new reserve also installed and connected with a new setting tank. The first container of porfido is expected to arrive in the coming days.

The Minister for Gozo added that works include the paving of Triq il-Port, Triq il-Forn, Triq San Guzepp, Triq ir-Rabat and Misrah Sir Michelangelo Refalo in porfido/lava, the installation of new light fixtures, as well as street furniture which will enhance the area and give it a more contemporary look.

“Through an investment of around €3,000,000, the Government is acknowledging the efforts undertaken by the private sector to transform Marsalforn into a tourist and entertainment hub,” he said.Clint Camilleri stated that “through this intervention, the Ministry for Gozo will stimulate further investments to ensure the competitiveness of the local tourist industry,” which, he pointed out, “accounts for roughly 50% of Gozo’s direct economic output and is responsible for around 20% of jobs created on the island.”

“This will be achieved through the allocation of around 12,850m2 of land that will be reserved for outdoor catering establishments,” he said

Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri concluded, that “in line with the Government’s policy to encourage the uptake of cleaner modes of transportation and the pursuance of a healthier lifestyle, the whole promenade will be pedestrianised, with vehicular access permissible only for rendering of service.”
