Walk-in Centres for Covid-19 vaccine to open from 19th JulyWalk-in Centres to receive the Covid-19 vaccine without the need for an appointment, will open from the 19th of July.

This was announced by Health Minister Chris Fearne while addressing a press conference with Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship and Communities Alex Muscat.

The Centres will be open to Maltese residents that live in Malta and who will have to produce either an id card or utilities bill to show proof of residence.

Dr Fearne said that the aim is for Malta and Gozo to reach the target of 85% for fully vaccinated adults to achieve “herd immunity.”

He explained that to date, 77% of the adult population are fully vaccinated, while 82.5% have had one dose.

75% of children between 12 and 15-years of age who received an appointment, have now had the first dose, there is a further 20% still to be done in this age group.

Dr Fearne went on to say that that a “small increase” in new Covid-19 cases had been seen in recent days, with the positivity rate up to 0.25% this week, from 0.15% last week. The seven-day moving average of cases is up to 6 from 3 last week.

There are two patients in hospital – both foreign, and neither were vaccinated – one is in ITU, he said.

Dr Fearne also explained that around 90% of positive cases registered were unvaccinated people, and just over 40% of new cases were imported, mostly from Europe.

One case is the Delta variant, a second case of the same variant has since recovered, he said.

Dr Fearne mentioned that even though there has been an increase in cases, because of the progress with the vaccination programme, the Government may look into permitting standing-activities following the Santa Marija Feast.

As from the 15th of July it will be possible to download not only the vaccine certificate but one also showing if you have had a PCR test or been previously infected with Covid-19, he said.
