The stories covered in this weeks issue are:
1. His Excellency the President of Malta, Dr. George Abela visited the headquarters of the Victoria Scout Group. He met the Group Council, the leaders and the members and thanked them for their efforts to raise funds during last year’s Strina campaign. The Victoria Scout Group had collected the amount of €4606 and had been chosen as the President’s Scout Group for 2010. The President encouraged the Group to do their best once more during this year’s edition of the fund-raising event.
2. An exhibition entitled From Birth to Childhood – a Christian Perspective is open at Heritage Malta’s premises in the Cittadella, Victoria.
The exhibition puts together a number of important works from the national collection at the National Museum of Fine Arts bearing the Virgin and Child theme.
The works span almost four centuries, with the oldest work dating back to the 17th century. Artists include Antonio Giorgetti, Stefano Erardi, Michele Bellanti, Frances-co Grandi, and Anton Inglott.
The exhibition, which closes on January 14, is open Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
3. The Pope has appointed Fr Joseph Bonello, OFM (Franciscan Province of St Paul the Apostle -Malta) coadjutor bishop of the diocese of Juticalpa, Honduras.
Fr Bonello, of Xaghra, is parish priest of Santa Ana de La Libertad, in the diocese of Comayagua. He has worked as a missionary in central America since 1989. Fr Bonello was ordained priest by Archbishop Emeritus Joseph Mercieca in 1985.
Fr Bonello’s motto for his new ministry is Patientia Omnia Potest (for patience, everything is possible). Experience has taught him patience is the greatest virtue necessary to obtain what is good and to aspire for what is better. The bishop of Juticalpa is Tomas Andres Mauro Muldoon, OFM.
